Take Control of Your Crohn's Disease,
Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Disease, or IBS...
and Restore Your Freedom
Hi, we're Steve Wright and Jordan Reasoner from SCDlifestyle.com
Two average guys who rejected conventional medicine by facing our fears and healing our guts using the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
If you have a digestive disease like us, then you're probably experiencing diarrhea or stomach pain right now and it might even be hard for you to get out of bed in the morning because your energy is so LOW.
If this is the case you have most likely seen doctors who have told you to do all the WRONG things to try and take control of your bowels.
If you're anything like us you've probably read or been told to:
- Eat Only Whole Grains
- Take more prescription drugs
- Eat more fiber
- Follow an elimination diet to figure out food allergies
The problem is: all of these "prescriptions" are treating the symptoms of your problems and none of them ever address the actual root cause of your digestive trouble!
Healing the root cause of digestive disease starts with calming full body inflammation and re-balancing the gut bacteria. The best way to treat the root cause is by following a version of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet that's custom fit for YOUR needs.
When both of us started following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, we stopped our diarrhea, gas, constipation, low energy, and stomach pain in the first 30 days, and now years later we still feel AMAZING!
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet works, plain and simple, but it's a little different for everyone. We learned this the hard way by healing our bodies and then helping hundreds of others do the same.
The diet takes some customization to heal each individual, and not making this simple adjustment causes so many people to give in and fail, thinking they will never be able to live a life free from bloody toilets and awful gas.
That's why we wanted to capture the "real world" experience we obtained healing ourselves and helping others personalize the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for their intestinal damage. We captured it all in a book to teach you the RIGHT things to do to heal your gut.
These "RIGHT" things are based on innovations we created personalizing the SCD, so if you already know about SCD, this is really going to help you.
Inside our eBook we're going to walk you through exactly how to customize the SCD to heal your own gut - based on how we took control of our health and stopped living our lives in a bathroom.
Following our program has allowed people to...
- Naturally control the symptoms of digestive disease without DRUGS!
- Finally take a road trip or go out on the town without worrying about where the nearest bathroom is
- Take control of their health, so they're no longer victims of digestive disease
- Have better mental energy, clarity, and focus
- And no longer let down people they love because, "they don't feel good today"
- While these benefits may seem impossible today, many people just like you have achieved even more using the SCD and our guidelines...
Here's what successful SCD'ers
had to say about our ebook:
I was going to the bathroom ten times a day or so, or 12 times a day before I started.
Somebody told me about the SCD diet and then we came across your Facebook page. And then as soon as I saw it I was like, "Hmm, this seems very helpful, because I don't know what I'm doing right now." But I would say that maybe the fact that it isn't in hardcopy, or maybe it is and I just don't know. But initially I didn't get it because there isn't an option to buy it in hardcopy.
When I started reading it, reading your guys' autobiographies at the beginning, or stories was incredibly helpful. And, in fact, I just read it again this weekend when I was a bit down and just saw how detailed it is. So that way it says for the first two weeks this is what I will eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And just because it's nice to be able to-because I am the only person that I know, with the exception of one adult who I vaguely know who has any problems with this. And so I had no idea. And I feel like a fruitcake buying all these foods and stuff like that. So where I come from it's a completely different methodology and mindset.
My doctor told me after I got a colonoscopy this summer, he told me that I'd be on these pills for $300 a month for the rest of my life. And he told me, he sat me down and he was like, "This will be your pill. You'll be taking six pills every single day for the rest of your life, and that's all I can do for you." And at that point I was like, "Okay." So I took them for the first two weeks, and they worked pretty good. And then after two weeks they did jack squat and I was like, "Alright well this is-maybe I need to go back on the steroids or something." I mean, I really wasn't on them very long just because I knew they weren't working so I was getting a little bit down about that.
I like how specific your book is. It says you cannot eat this. And it also is very helpful with phasing in foods. So like you give us stuff, like some directions on how to make pureed carrots and all those foods for phase one and two. And then from there you kind of like let go, and everybody else can figure it out on their own after that point. But the thing that I like the most is just how detailed it is at the beginning to say, "Start with these main core. And if you start with other foods, and you start eating them raw and that kind of stuff, you're going to have setbacks." It's helpful. The detail is helpful I would say.
I was going to the bathroom ten times a day or so, or 12 times a day before I started. And the first week, actually the first couple of days already, I couldn't even keep track of how many times I was going to the bathroom because it was like once maybe.
This book is easy for beginners like me who had no idea what to do with Breaking the Vicious Cycle. I know that's what you talk in the beginning of the book, too, is how you guys spend so much time, like $100 a week or whatever the first couple of weeks putting together and trying to figure out what Elaine had to say in that book. And I think that is going to be the number one selling point. It's just that for people who don't know where to go, it lays it right out in front of you.
I was starting to say, "I don't think I'm constipated anymore."
Money was an issue. It's an expensive illness to have. And honestly I just thought I could take a shortcut and read Breaking the Vicious Cycle, and read the website and everything and be okay. And I quickly realized that I was missing information that I really needed. So I went ahead and bought the e-book. And I should have done it a long time ago, because that had the missing pieces I needed to really get started on SCD. And so it was well worth the money.
I didn't realized when I started SCD that I needed to pay attention to the phases. And I was just eating things on the SCD list, and started to improve. But when I realized I need to do the intro diet and do all that, I backed up, did that, and my big thing was IBS with constipation. And within three to four days, I was starting to say, "I don't think I'm constipated anymore." And then that has pretty much, unless I'm having a reaction, I'm regular for the first time in a long time.
The cooking was helpful. That was a steep learning curve for me. And the detail about the cooking methods and cooking with different fruits and vegetables, that was very helpful.
I would recommend the book. SCD is very, very difficult. I mean it is, it's easy but it's difficult, if that makes sense. And it's such a step-by-step thing. There is so much to learn, and it can be so overwhelming that what I liked about the e-book is that I would remember, "Okay, this is in there." And I could go back to it any time to read it again. Or if there was something in it I wasn't ready for, and then later I could get to that place, I could go back to the e-book and read it again. It was just easy to get on my computer and look up what I needed to look up, and re-read what I needed to re-read. It's just a constant resources, I guess is a way of putting it. It's just a constant resource that I went to.
I really appreciate the support that book gives, and the posts that you repeat on your website all the time. The repetition is necessary to get it through our heads sometimes.
SCD took me from an intolerable life of pain to a pain free, happy, greatly reduced state of symptoms
The SCDLifestyle eBook has made my life as a clinician so much easier because instead of taking time each and every visit to have to explain how to do the SCD, and how to get started, I can just send my patients to your book and site. Amazing resource which I am forever grateful for!
For me personally, the SCD took me from an intolerable life of pain to a pain free, happy, greatly reduced state of symptoms - life. It's the treatment that worked the best for my IBS/SIBO, out of hundreds of excellent remedies, excellently chosen by qualified doctors. SCD is the bomb! It didn't "cure" me completely, but I have no complaints and only gratitude for the immense reduction in symptoms, increase in health and increase in control it's given me.
Dr. Allison Sibecker
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is based on over 50 years of microbiology and digestive research that has helped thousands of people just like you stop the symptoms of digestive diseases
The principles of SCD were developed by Dr. Sydney Valentine Haas, and were originally described in his book, "The Management of Celiac Disease" that was published in 1951.
The book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" was written by biochemist and cell biologist Elaine Gottschall, who cured her daughters ulcerative colitis using the SCD and researched digestion for over 30 years. Her ground breaking book expanded on the work of Dr. Haas to explain all the science behind the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and why you feel the way you do. We like to think of it as a superhighway to health.
The guidelines of SCD have been healing people for over 50 years and it's the only road map we've found that gets you on the fast track to indentifying and NATURALLY stopping the symptoms of digestive disease.
The Truth No One Wants To Admit
Diet Modification is not one size fits all approach - everyone is a little different when it comes to achieving a healthy gut. Some people can start SCD following the rules exactly and see great success - but many others such as us need a logically laid out customization program to heal their intestinal damage.
We designed our eBook to be your blueprint for creating your own personal entrance ramp to merge on the superhighway of SCD health, so you don't have to sit back and watch everyone else whiz by at 80 mph!
"My IBS flared and I became constipated and miserable"
I had been on the SCD for about 6 months and felt so good that I started to get cocky and think I was better. I would occasionally indulge in foods that had previously made me feel bad. Well, that didn't work so well.My IBS flared and I became constipated and miserable. I decided to re-start the SCD a couple of weeks ago and I decided that this time I really needed more support than I previously had received. Through people I'm following on twitter, I found Jordan and Steve and decided to order their book. The book has been great in helping me begin again with the intro diet and ease back into the SCD.I've only started cooking in the last 6 months so I really appreciate the step-by-step directions for preparing food. I also really like the guides for each stage. I really need the structure right now to keep me on track and this book totally helps.

Here's What More People Had to Say About It:
"Only someone who is successfully on this diet after trial and error can really be of help"
As lucky as I feel about finding BTVC, I feel equally fortunate that I found Steve and Jordan's book; Surviving to Thriving!! book is like an instruction manual on how to successfully start and stay on the diet! Elaine said; "the difficulty of adhering to it should not be minimized." no matter how much support you have at home or from a physician, only someone who is successfully on this diet after trial and error can really be of help and know what you're going through. these two guys spell it out for you!
After the intro diet felt a little lost about what to do next. made a few mistakes that gave me unpleasant setbacks and wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. I found Surviving to Thriving, I thought wow! here are people who have gone through the same thing as I'm going through! They are willing to share their mistakes and successes and guide me through phasing!" After reading their book I actually re-started the diet to do it correctly!! My favorite part of the book talks about how to introduce new foods, and what is easy/hard to digest. found this invaluable! Surviving to Thriving moved my healing forward and I'm so grateful.

Scd lifestyle is def my number one advisor, I trust you guys the most when it comes to information about improving my health
Thanks for helping me be a successful CEO of my health with the wealth of knowledge that you provide. You guys have never steered me wrong.
"I started having problems again even off the gluten"
I've been gluten free for years, and it has helped me a lot. But in the past few years, I started having problems again even off the gluten. This book has answered so many questions about why other grains and even potatoes have been bothering me. Now that I understand the logic behind the diet, I think it will be much easier to eat right. Four out of my five siblings are also gluten sensitive, and I've already forwarded a number of links, including yours, to them.
I like the pictures and direct instructions about what to do first, next, and so on. Shopping lists were very helpful, especially the information about yogurt makers. The book is very readable and understandable, putting everything into straightforward language. This makes the task of preparing all the meals seem very doable, and not so hard. Not having to worry about how to follow the diet is definitely giving me the momentum to succeed at this.
I would recommend the diet for anybody who's got any kind of bowel problems at all.
Well when I found out about this diet, the stage I was at, I was ready to start it straight away, and just jump right in. Because I'd been through quite a few elimination diets prior to that. So I just grasped it because I thought this is for me. This is going to really help me. And I just jumped right in.
I wasn't getting any help from the doctors. But I knew it was to do with food. I had pain, constipation, and headaches, and backaches, and fatigue. I just felt rubbish, really bad.
The doctor just said Irritable Bowel Syndrome, because we ruled everything else out. And so that's what he said I had. And I kept saying to him, "I think this has got to do with food. And so I thought there's no point. I've got to do this for myself. Funnily enough, I found your website a year previous, but at that point I don't think I was ready to start it because it just seemed too much for me then. And but now I know I'm on the right road now, so I'm really pleased.
The information that you guys have is unbelievable. I just love it. And it's almost as if there's something I'm stuck on. And I go on the site, and I find the answer to it. And I can't believe it sometimes, it's like you're a psychic.
I would recommend the diet for anybody who's got any kind of bowel problems at all. And, or even maybe not. Even skin conditions or anything like that. And why? Because, well, I wrestled with myself and argued with myself. And I said, "Well, if I don't try it, how do I know it's not going to work? I've got to do this, because I might spend the rest of my life wondering if that might have worked and I didn't try it." And like you say, even if you give it 30 days, it's not a lot out of your life is it, really? So I think you've got to give it a go, because, like me it was my last option. It was the only thing I had left. And thank goodness it was the one that worked.
I would just like to thank Jordan and Steve so much for all the work and effort you put into it. And I just can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for everybody.
"It was amazing to see such a dramatic difference even from the backward movement to the intro diet and phase 1"
I tried the diet before I was really ready to do it right and was actually on it 100% but in the wrong stage for a month before I started it again this time. It was amazing to see such a dramatic difference even from the backward movement to the intro diet and phase 1. The book showed how to set up a functioning support network, to ask for help and that it is okay to accept help. Showed I am not alone and really worked out the kinks of the most difficult part of the diet - starting it. Thanks so much for putting it together!

Within a week I had probably reduced my symptoms to maybe three stools a day
I was first on the SCD diet about 15 years ago. And I lasted for about three years. It was really quite good. And then I guess at the advice of other people who tried adding gluten free products and that sort of thing. And things progressively, I guess, went downhill from there. And then kids came, and things got busy, and I thought I'll just plot along as I was. And I had a bit of a crisis about two years ago, health wise. I had a relapse. Things weren't good. I couldn't take the kids to school. I was in bed. And I just thought SCD is the only thing that helped me. And I've just got to go back on it.
Before I went on the intro diet I was weak, I was constantly on the toilet. I would take the kids to school, and come back home, and go to bed. And after I went on the intro diet again, within a week I had probably reduced my symptoms to maybe three stools a day. And I felt like I had so much more energy. And I didn't have pain.
I loved the way that your book focused on being really simple. And putting in one thing-going back to just eating a few things, and then adding things one at a time every few days, and taking a lot of notice about what signals your body was giving you.
I love Elaine's book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, and I think it's a really powerful book. It's very easy to lose track of having to start very slowly. And it's easy to sort of start just thinking it's okay to take out grains, and starches, and dairy, and start just eating everything, which is a mistake I made when I first read the book. And then I re-read it fairly soon after again, realized the mistake, and I went onto the intro diet myself, which helped. But for many people, I think that is the main problem.
I started, and I began to notice changes immediately
" I purchased the SCD Lifestyle in order to be able to help my husband begin healing from UC. It
helps take the "Breaking The Vicious Cycle" to a more workable level. It just made getting
started easier! We are still in the early stages, & there is lots of trial & error, but I feel
we are moving forward & are both reaping the benefits of the diet. One big thing it has done for
me (& I don't have UC, but have had diverticulitis issues) is to show me how this change in diet
habits has improved how I feel--more energy, both physical & mental, better digestion, & losing
all the aches & pains I associated with aging! It has also taught me that making most things
from scratch is not only easy, but empowering--homemade chicken broth?--no problem & so delicious!
Nut milks?--so simple! Same with nut breads. We are definitely eating to live these days & it has
been such an eye-opener to have such a positive effect occur so quickly just by eliminating
processed foods, grains, sugars, & dairy. My next learning project is homemade yogurt & dry curd
cottage cheese. Steve & Jordan's books really made the difference for us." Claudia A
" The SCD Lifestyle book and website are what really got me serious about starting the SCD. I had
read Breaking the Vicious Cycle, but to be honest, it seemed so outdated. When I found your
website and read the book, I saw that you were young people with busy lives living in today's
world, and you were doing it. So then I knew that I could do it. And I started, and I began to
notice changes immediately. I don't have UC or anything seriously life threatening, but I do
have SIBO, and it was to the point where it seriously impacted my quality of life. It's been
about 2 years since I've discovered the SCD, and my life is now drastically different. I no
longer spend hours upon hours in the bathroom, I'm no longer severely bloated, I'm not
constantly tired/lethargic, and I just feel like a different person. My eating habits are now
more Paleo, because it's just what works for me, but that's the other thing that SCD Lifestyle
taught me. You need to do what's right for you. Just because it's "SCD" legal, doesn't mean it's
OK for you. You need to experiment. For example, I don't do well with too many nuts...they don't
digest well, and they tend to be a "trigger" food for me (but that's a different story...) so I
avoid them. Thanks for teaching me to listen to my body. Oh, and thanks for the 5 day "get back
on track" diet plan, that thing has been a total life saver!!!! "
This much is true: At some point in your life you're going to want to travel near or far, or have a nice evening out on the town, or attend a social function with your family and have a great time...
The question is - are you going to have control over your digestive disease? Or are you going to let the fear and anxiety from your digestive disease control you?

Despite what others might tell you, if you continue using drugs and eating the same foods, it's likely that your digestive disease will continue to get worse.
One of the biggest myths of conventional medicine is "diet does not affect your digestion." Another HUGE myth is that "no natural ways exist to stop the symptoms of digestive disease"
These are MYTHS that can cost your livelihood and leave you stranded on the toilet for hours a day

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet works on the root causes of your digestive issues, starts your body's natural healing properties and gets you well on your way to optimal health. Drugs are not the way to better digestion...
The Only Question Is: Will You Take Advantage Of The Opportunity?
Incredibly, these small-but-powerful changes won't be "worth the effort" for the majority of people who read this.
They'd rather wait for a "magic pill" medical cure that will never come.
Either they don't believe such a simple, straight-forward approach can succeed where modern medicine has failed - or they just aren't willing to lift a finger to save their own life.
What a shame.
The fun these people are missing and the consequences of their "magic pill" mindset is literally robbing them of the life they desire.
But That's Not You, Right?
I didn't think so.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is this book right for me?

- If you have no clue how to cook SCD foods (like peeled, de-seeded, and cooked fruits and veggies)
- If you realize that starting a diet like this takes a little bit of extra psychological help to be successful
WHO SHOULD NOT BUY THIS BOOK...
- If you're a professional cook or your name is Betty Crocker, Martha Stewart, or Rachel Ray
- If you've read and understood every SCD website, blog and yahoo group message
- If you're looking for immediate health miracles without doing any of the hard work

2. What if the diet doesn't work and I don't get any better?
That is quite a negative thought your having... and most likely not going to be the case. The diet works to heal the gut of most people that have digestive issues. "What if" thoughts are never helpful and only prevent you from seeing what might have happened. How about this: "What if you started the diet and got better and no longer had to worry about where the nearest bathroom was?"Why not give it a chance to work, and if it doesn't, you won't be any worse off, plus we will give you 100% of your money, back no questions asked (remember our personal guarantee?).
3. How much of my time is this diet going to take up?
At first, it will take some time to hop on the learning curve and you will spend some more time in the kitchen that you probably do now. But don't worry, that is why we created the guide... to save you time. The best part is, as you start to heal you will start to get the time back that you used to spend in the bathroom or laying in bed with an upset stomach! If you follow the guide and stick to the diet, the time you spend in the kitchen will be less and less as you get more experience.
4. My Dr. and my family think I am crazy for starting this diet, what should I do?
The only person that can make the decision to start the diet is you. But our guide has detailed information about how to integrate the SCD diet into your lifestyle (hence the name, SCD Lifestyle). We give you tips on how to talk to your doctor about the diet (or find a new one if you have to) and how to work the diet into your family life to help keep everyone functioning just like the old days (but better because you won't be sick anymore)!

I look back now and go, "Oh my God, I'm so glad that I did this."
The book is phenomenal. Truly phenomenal. I mean, I'd done Atkins once before, and best I ever felt in my life. So I knew that there was something to no grains and sugar, but I didn't think it was that drastic.
I mean, I bought Breaking the Vicious Cycle a year or two ago. And in reading through it, I felt like I was in biology class. It was complex. It just seemed very complicated. And then when I found you guys' site on Facebook and I downloaded that Quick Start Guide, it was so easy. And you broke it down, "This is what you need to go out and buy, then here's what you need to go and do." And that really was what it took. Because it just seemed too complicated from Breaking the Vicious Cycle itself.
I've been on prednisone now for about five or six weeks, and I started tapering. So theoretically I should start feeling pretty crummy because that's just the way prednisone works for me in the last five years. I was in the bathroom easily anywhere from eight times a day and up. I may not necessarily have diarrhea all the time, but it's urgent. There's no five minute warning. There's no two minute warning. And this summer I had absolutely no life because I couldn't go anywhere. And then they put me on the prednisone and I felt marginally better. Maybe I was going five or six times a day. And then as soon as I started the diet I noticed a difference within two days just with the urgency. Within a week or so I was down to maybe going three or four times a day. And within two weeks, it was once a day. I've never, ever been a once a day person, ever. And there's zero urgency. There was zero diarrhea. I felt like a normal person.
The book was so easy to follow. Here's your shopping list. Here's what you need in your house, and here's what you're going to do. And while that's happening, you do this. It was a couple hours of prep, but so worth it. Because once you had everything lined up that you needed, and cooked, and ready to go, then the next day it was basically wake up and away you go. There's no trying to figure it out or whatever, because you'd already figured it out for us.
It works. And there's no other way around it. It's neat to see, though, that you have to tweak it to what works for you. Carrots have always been a challenge for me, but cooking them for six hours works. So you just have to find what works for you. There are some tweaking. It's not going to be a hands-down miracle for everybody, you do have to tweak it a bit. But it's just so easy to follow. And so worth it, to get a little bit of life back.
I would challenge people to try it. You can't knock it until you try it. And I did for a long time, and it's two years I wish I could have had back, and been feeling better. But, I mean, live and learn. Everybody's got to do things on their own time. So I think people need to try it. I was at the point where I was ready to have them just take everything out this summer. I was so fed up with feeling so lousy. And I look back now and go, "Oh my God, I'm so glad that I did this."
"My son started having constipation once solid foods were started. It became worse and worse,
he also changed from my happy go lucky baby to a frustrated, angry, unhappy toddler. The
pediatrician put him on a laxative called Miralax for the constipation- he said my child
could stay on it indefinetely.
The family went Gluten-Free for celiac diagnosis of mom & sister. No change for my boy.
Then we went on the SCD and he now is off the medication, has type 4's, and is a happy child
My brother & his wife saw him a year post starting the SCD and said quote " He is a changed
child- 180 degree turn around!"
GOD bless Elaine Gottshall and Dr. Sydney Valentine Hass!
And GOD BLESS your SCD lifestyle site and book- it was only through your book we were really
able to fine tune to achieve success."
All of my symptoms were gone and the colonoscopy was clean except for those two spots
When I first got sick last November, my husband found the diet right away, like within a couple days after being diagnosed. And I looked at the SCD legal list and I just cried. I was like, "I can't do this." They just gave me the Asacol, and I took it, and I was like, "Give me the Asacol. I don't want to change my diet." So what I said to my husband was, "I will do it for a week or so, and see how I feel. And then I'll just go back to gluten free." And that's what I did. And it turned things around literally in five days. So I was like, "Okay, I'll add in the gluten free stuff and see how it goes." And it was totally fine until February, and I started backsliding again. And at that point, I decided I just kind of knew in my gut that I had to try it. So at first, the obstacle was I just don't want to change my diet. And there are probably multiple reasons for that. I used to have an eating disorder, and I had finally gotten to a point where I was like okay with food, and no eating disorder. And food was my friend, and I liked to cook a lot. And I couldn't imagine not cooking and baking some of the things that I've always made. So it just seemed like too much for me.
So the first time I went on SCD, I went from having bloody diarrhea like five or six times a day, and there was blood in my stool, to just once or twice a day. And the blood stopped. And it stopped after starting SCD within five days. And my stomach didn't… you know that ache you have in your stomach, where kind of the overall pain just something is hurting? That went away also within the five days. And it didn't come back again until February. I started feeling nauseated every time I ate, and it was especially when I would eat something with sugar. And I also started getting canker sores in my mouth. And so I just knew that I had to do something different. And by that time, I had done the research on the medications, and I knew I didn't want to do that. So that time, I think I started the diet on February 16th, and I had a colonoscopy at the end of the month, February 28th or something. And within that amount of time, the nausea was completely gone. And no more canker sores. I had also started getting acne back on my skin. And in that two weeks, the acne was gone. And when I got my colonoscopy, it was clean except for two spots of inflammation. And granted, I wasn't having any blood when I started SCD the second time, but all of my symptoms were gone and the colonoscopy was clean except for those two spots. So that was really powerful for me. Because I just knew. You know where you just know? So having only two spots of inflammation was just amazing to me. And my upper, my small intestines, they did an endoscopy as well, and that was totally clear. So that was awesome.
I had gone to the GI, and I had told him that I had cut my Asacol in half and he was like, "Make sure you don't get off of it completely." He just doesn't think the diet has anything to do with why I'm doing well. Next we were applying for life insurance. And all of my blood work was completely normal.
At first I told my doctor how I was eating. And the first time I had talked to him he was like, "Ah, let me know how it goes. That sounds kind of awful." But the second time around, after seeing those numbers, I talked to him about it again and I could just see his wheel turning. He was really impressed. So that was really satisfying for me to just be feeling so good, and also see that the numbers were like, I'm probably healthier now at this point than most of my friends who don't have a GI inflammatory disease.
For me, the eBook helped to get started, and the phasing was really helpful. Because I'm someone who kind of falls on my face. I have to try things, and then I find out after the fact that I did it wrong. And so the phasing was really helpful to know that I had to eat only pureed fruits and veggies for so long before I could try to eat them whole and cooked. And just kind of to know what to expect about when to introduce what kind of food. That, for me, was really, really helpful. And, of course, I started the almond flour way too soon. And I was so excited because I loved baking, and I loved eating the almond flour stuff. But one day I baked an almond flour cake with honey and that whole thing, and I ate it, and my stomach just blew up like a balloon and I was in pain. So I was convinced it was contaminated with gluten. So I kind of went about that backwards as well as the dairy and the eggs. But I just didn't think I had leaky gut very bad. I was just in denial. So, had I listened to all of that, it would have been really helpful.
I already have recommended the book to other people. I would recommend it to anyone because I just feel like my health is so much better than it's ever been.
I know what it's like when you're like, "Oh I have stinky gas all the time, but that's normal". I don't want to be the know-it-all person who is like, "Well just so you know…" But at the same time, I just try to keep it like, "Well, this is what I'm doing, and it's worked really well for me. Let me know if you're ever interested, and I'd love to talk to you about it more." That's the kind of thing I do. And then if someone asks me specifically, "What are you doing, and do you think it would help what I have?" Then I'm all about going all into detail with it.
This is just really powerful, not only for your GI system, but for your whole body. My skin has never been as clear as it is now. But I also have a foot injury, and my Achilles has been injured. My feet actually kind of went, I had plantar fasciitis. And my feet went haywire before I started having the GI symptoms. And the best they can figure is that the inflammation in my body kind of went to that weak point in my feet. And that has also slowly and surely gotten better with the dietary changes. So that, to me, is huge.
I think you provide a great resource for those who want a linear, step-by-step approach to the first 90 days on the SCD. Those in or just out of college, those intimidated by the "feel it out as you go" approach, and perhaps even those with children will find value in what you are putting together. This book agglomerates information from several sources, and experiences, that I think will save people time and mistakes. I think your cautious approach to starting the SCD will indeed increase the speed at which people heal, and will help people to know for sure if the SCD will work for them.
"My daughter developed celiac, we went Gluten-Free. Then she developed another autoimmune
disease, called Scleroderma- which included severe, painful arthritis. At age nine, she had
to give away her rollerskates- just walking downstairs in the morning was difficult.
Diarrhea, fatigue, constant illness, despite being GF.
A friend shared Breaking the Vicious Cycle- we started it & saw improvement immediately.
Still, not the 100% others seem to have. The SCD Lifestyle book has helped fine tune and
tailor the SCD to her so very much."
"I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2002 and have since been on Prednisone, Pentasa, 6mp,
Asacol, and have just recently started Remicade. I have gone through a series of ups and downs
including extreme weight loss, pain, a recent abscess, and all the symptoms that come with
Crohn's. During the past year, I became so fatigued at times that I wouldn't be able to go out
friends. I also became so sensitive to food that I ate ice cream one evening, and because of the
aftermath, I was unable to perform in a show. I thought that this pain was random, until I
discovered the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I could not believe that I had never heard of the SCD
before; it made complete sense and matched up with everything in my food journal. I have only
on the diet for a couple weeks, and already my skin has begun to clear up, my gas and bathroom
issues have lessened and are almost normal, I have much more energy, I go to sleep and wake up
normal times, I feel in control of what I eat, and I keep getting better. Thank you to Jordan
Steve for their helpful podcast, to Elaine for her book, and for the community full of helpful
information. I am just starting out on my journey, but it really does work and can produce
"I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in the fall of 2010 with symptoms beginning about 6
prior to my diagnosis. I was miserable and planning my day around a bathroom had pretty much
my normal routine. I would get anxiety when I was in route somewhere because I wasn't sure if I
would have to find a bathroom on the way. Many times I would find myself panicking and running
the bathroom with a second to spare before having an accident (which I wasn't always so lucky).
was incredibly stressful, uncomfortable, and depressing. I was on two different types of
and I wasn't really seeing any results. Finally, that spring my sister who is studying
made me see a nutritionist. I, at the time, didn't believe that a nutritionist could tell me
something my GI doctor didn't know. I was incredibly skeptical.
But, I went for my sister and I was so desperate I would have tried anything at this point. The
nutritionist told me about SCD. She first took me off all grains, sugar, and dairy. After about
week (learned later about the yeast die off) I felt so much better. I bought Breaking the
Cycle and it has become my bible. It has been a year since I have been on SCD and I am feeling
much better. I don't get anxiety anymore about traveling places and don't have to plan my day
a bathroom. While I have my rough days here and there, it is so much more manageable. I have
off one of my medicines and now only take something in the morning. I also have a thyroid
and interestingly enough, this past fall, my doctor checked my blood levels and my thyroid is
doing better. I had to lower my dosage of thyroid medicine for the first time since I was
at 16! (15 years ago).
I used to only believe that you take the medicine the doctor gave you and that there were no
options. I have to admit I was very skeptical about SCD but I was so desperate, I was willing to
anything. It has changed my life and I have also seen the other benefits from this
diet. I am a total convert and tell everyone I know about this diet. I actually don't call it a
diet, but a lifestyle. For me, there is no getting off this diet. This is how I will eat for the
rest of my life.
And THANK YOU Jordan and Steve for helping me tweak and understand the SCD lifestyle. You have
helped me customize my SCD so it works best for me. So appreciate all the work you put into your
blog and books!"

" I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2009 when I was 24 years old. It wasn't until 2
later that I learned about SCD and it took me another 6 months to feel ready for the lifestyle
changes. Before SCD I went through periods of remission and also terrible flares. Well-meaning
doctors prescribed different medications and told me that diet had nothing to do with UC. I was
bloated from the Prednisone. I worried about having accidents at work. I was sleep-deprived. I
Last summer I was frustrated with western medicine and I went to a holistic nutritionist who told
about SCD. I went home, ordered Breaking the Vicious Cycle, and cleared out my fridge and
Hours later my stomach was growling and I was on the phone with my parents in tears. I was
completely unprepared to start SCD both mentally and physically. I wanted to feel better, but
timing wasn't right. I was about to start a new job and I didn't feel ready to make 2 major
SCD was on the backburner, so several months later when my GI doctor said I'd need to start
(which didn't sound likely to work for me) or have surgery, I thought, "Hey, doesn't this sound
extreme? I haven't even tried all my options yet." I decided to try SCD for 30 days-- it couldn't
hurt to try. This time around I had already practiced making yogurt, I had read Elaine's book
multiple times, and I'd begun to poke around on the internet for guidance.
Finding SCD Lifestyle allowed me to feel comfortable starting the diet. SCD can seem
but the 5 stages gave me concrete guidelines of how to heal my gut successfully. The
and pictures broke down the cooking procedures so I felt guided every step of the way. The books
were written in a personable and positive way that made me feel that I could take on the
and that people just like me found relief with SCD.
I was vegetarian for 6 years, but I knew I wouldn't get the right nutrients on SCD without my
staples of tofu and rice and beans. On Thanksgiving of last year I started eating meat. It was a
weekend of transition. I gobbled down turkey and stuffing and the following day I started the
I have been on SCD for almost 4.5 months and I am seeing so much progress. Things aren't perfect
I'm still tweaking my diet and lifestyle, but I have to stop and remember my gains. I am finally
Prednisone and my moods and energy levels have improved. I lost weight and I am now at a healthy
weight for my size. I have less urgency and, therefore, less anxiety about going out. I'm
to plan small weekend trips and I'll be going on a longer plane trip later this year. I have
a really good cook and friends love coming over for dinner. I listen to the SCD Lifestyle
on my way to work or in the grocery store and I sometimes check the blog entries or facebook
I still pull out my phasing charts when I'm planning my grocery shopping. I remember Jordan's
about feeling like he has a secret that he wants to scream to the world when he pushes his cart
through the aisles with healthy fruits, veggies, and meats while seeing others load up their
entirely with packaged items. I feel like I am part of the group secret too. And just like the
Lifestyle guys, I don't keep it a secret anymore. I have started talking about UC and SCD with
friends, family, and co-workers. It feels good educating others and it seems everyone knows
with UC or Crohn's. I even feel like I am educating my GI doctor. All of these experiences have
helped me to feel connected and supported. I honestly don't think I could have made it this far
SCD without that. I read a post on an SCD blog before Thanksgiving when I was gearing up to
the diet and it has stayed with me. The blogger said that people often tell her that her diet
so limited and she just smiles and thinks to herself, I've never felt so free. Now I can say
can taste the freedom. I'm looking forward to continuing the healing."
" Jordan and Steve your support through the SCD Lifestyle has been the connecting thread to a
continued road to health. Your responses to my many email questions have been a blessing. YOU
have made a difference in one child's life -- our daughter's.
Our daughter, Marisa, was diagnosed with Crohn's disease seven years ago (at the age of 7).
Elaine Gottschall's book Breaking the Vicious Cycle was given to us when she was first
diagnosed. It was set aside, read years later, set aside again, and finally put to the test a
little over two years ago -- full throttle, with 100% adherence, and of course a few mistakes
along the way.
Starting the diet was out of love and desperation. Marisa was having too many flares requiring
the use of Prednisone too often each year with 6MP not keeping the disease in remission. Her GI
doctor, whom we respect, let us know changes in medication needed to occur, however when we did
the research on the meds being suggested, we were scared. We felt the side effects of the
medications would be more harmful to our daughter in the long haul, especially since there are
no studies on these medications done on children at this time. We met with her GI doctor and
asked that she give us a chance with this diet. We told her we felt that we could not place her
on these meds at this early age in a life-long disease, without first trying something we felt
might have a chance to work. With great reservation, her doctor agreed, as long as we kept her
on her 6MP as a cushion. We plunged in -- two fulltime working parents, four active children, and
one mom who DOES NOT LIKE TO COOK -- ever!
I could make this story even longer, but let's just say that at first we felt overwhelmed with
the preparation, marketing, planning, and the incredible amount of dishes to be done. Did you
know kitchen counters get full of washed dishes when you cook that much? I had owned a cooking
thermometer for twenty some years -- it had never been used! Well, it was about to be my number
one friend with that yogurt! I must admit, we chose to make this a commitment for one year, no
turning back. We spent one day a week running around to three different markets and cooking all
day. It meant saying no to other things, but it also showed us priorities. With the help of SCD
cookbooks, websites, and a friend who is an amazing cook who I would call with my non-cooking
brain questions, we did it! Honestly, two years later, it gets easier. That overwhelming feeling
is gone. You get in a routine, you know what works, you figure out what does not, and you freeze
a lot when you're fulltime workers. Marisa takes SCD lunches to school, to sleepovers, and has
even been able to remain on the diet while attending a local summer camp for children with
chronic diseases (of course the camp allowed us to bring in all her food).
Now for the twist in this story and a time of doubt; the past six months have been a down hill
spiral with her health. About six months ago we asked for Marisa to be taken off all
medications. Her GI doctor works out of a research hospital and conferred with the other doctors
on staff and gave us the green light. Unfortunately, doctors themselves do not know enough about
the diet and even the best, which hers is, are not quiet sure how to go about this. As soon as
she came off the 6MP she had one of the worst flares she'd ever had, getting down to
eighty-seven pounds and being hospitalized with heavy doses of steroids again. We kept her SCD
diet while in the hospital, bringing all food from home. Took her home with oral steroids and
back on the 6MP, but we didn't give up on the diet. I did and have been doing extensive research
on how to wean off the medication and journaling foods. We would try again to wean her from meds
in a year or two, but we would not give up on the SCD. The doctors agreed she'd had not one
flare while on 6MP and SCD in a year and a half, so why take her off SCD.
A month ago, another road block in the journey; Marisa ended up with appendicitis, which
apparently is extremely rare for a patient with Crohn's to get appendicitis, again hospitalized.
However, due to the Crohn's and results of a CT scan showing a very inflamed ileum, surgery was
not an option. Her appendicitis was treated with IV antibiotics and then oral antibiotics. Once
home, follow-up doctor visits let us know the prognosis did not look good from test results.
They would need to do an edoscopy and colonoscopy to see the damage to the ileum (the same area
she has Crohn's each time). The options seemed bleak. Doubt. Is the diet working? Such a
sacrifice for a fourteen year old girl -- was SCD worth it if her ileum is that damaged?
After the procedure, her GI doctor took me in the consultation room and smiled -- (I think she
cares deeply about our daughter) I knew all was good. She said she even called the surgeon (the
one who treated her with the appendix) to confirm the CT scan results and confired with the
radiologist who read the results to make sure the CT scan was correct. Her doctor said that of
all the Crohn's patients she'd ever had, Marisa's colon and intestines were the healthiest she'd
ever seen, even the area of intestine connected to the appendix was healthy. A week later we met
with the surgeon for a follow up visit. He said that because her case was so rare, it was
discussed extensively among the doctors there and all the doctors agreed that with the results
of the CT scan and an inflamed ileum, none would have done surgery.
Now the question remains -- how could this be? How could intestines heal so quickly? Was it the
appendix causing inflammation or the inflammation causing the appendix? I guess we'll never
know. I think my dad said it best; maybe this needed to happen so that you could see that the
diet is working. Maybe it was the confirmation you needed to let you know to go on. Maybe, just
maybe, it was prayer, faith, and commitment. It just so happens that Marisa had had an endoscopy
and colonoscopy right before starting the SCD due to all the complications of the disease at
that time. I remember those results -- many polyps, ulcers, inflammation - diseased. Not this
time -- clear, pink, beautiful. Her brothers say it best, "Hey, Marisa, I hear you have a
good-looking butt!" Of course, they're referring to the doctor's comments of the endo/col
results, but that's what family is for.
Our journey continues. She's not off meds yet, but we'll try again, differently, stronger, with
more knowledge, but we are NOT giving up on SCD. Thank you Jordan and Steve, for a forum and a
place to offer support and learn. SCD has changed our lives. It has given us life.
Side note...I actually like to cook now. Never in a million years did I think I would ever say that
-- neither did my family!"
" Between my second serious flare-up of Ulcerative Colitis (trying a barage of different drugs
which failed) and being correctly diagnosed Crohn's, I spent a year on a proven and medically
supported elimination diet. I was trying to alleviate a myriad of allergies that were bogging
down my life. I was using Prednisone and Imodium to get me through emergencies. I was
dairy-free, salycilate-free and I felt emormous relief when I finally went wheat free. But I was
still not satisfied or improving. When my last colonoscopy in 2011 confirmed Crohn's I was
offered 6MP but my GI specialist knew I would rather take a natural course. On my new quest to
get to know Crohn's, I stumbled across SCD. The allergies I had taken a year to try and control
were all gone within the first week of starting SCD. I still have a bag full of
immuno-suppresive, cortosteriodal drugs I was using, only as reminder of how far I have come. I
have just completed the 90 day SCD Lifestyle challenge and I know my gut is healing. The fact
that my shares in toilet paper have plummeted is proof! It has not been an easy journey even
though my symptoms seem mild when compared to others succeeding on SCD. Without the support of
local MD's and specialists, we success stories are largely on our own, searching for the right
pathway through this diet. It is the encouragement and advice, based on personal experience,
from on-line blogs and support groups that motivate, guide and perpetuate SCD success. I am 48
years old and now thriving. I look and feel like the real me. I look forward to the day that,
alongside 6MP, SCD is offered as an alternative treatment for all versions of IBD by the people
who should know better."
" I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2011. For years prior to that I thought I was lactose
intolerant and learned how to eat correctly or so I thought. I did try some of the drugs
Entocort and Pentasa, I knew the side effects weren't to bad with these particular drugs so I
gave it a try. I knew I was not going to try the harsher drugs even though my doctor was pushing
it. She even said I was a mild case so I asked why all the drugs. I think that is there standard
protocol so that's what they do. The drugs didn't seem to do anything and the pain I was having
was still there. Feeling full and not wanting to eat. I was starting to panic because I was
losing so much weight and I actually thought if this keeps up I just might die. So thank
goodness for the computer (I use to hate the darn thing) and I researched endlessly. I was
obsessed. I came across several sites and learning about the different drugs and how doctors say
diet does nothing or they usually say watch your trigger foods.
I learned all about SCD and Breaking the Vicious Cycle. At first when you are in that much pain
and still trying to hold down a job, family and everything that goes with it you start to wonder
when will I have time to cook or what is there to eat etc. But with Jordan and Steve's help
their eBooks break it down so easy and you can follow it step by step. The podcasts are
fantastic and they are so helpful. It is very overwhelming in the beginning and I even like to
cook. But with the help and research from Jordan and Steve people can actually feel like they
have there life back. Each person has to make the decision if they want to stay on this diet or
not, no one will do it for them but knowing there is support out there it makes it so much
easier. Hopefully in the future the doctors will see that it actually does work. I also do not
call this a diet, it is a way of life. Thanks Jordan and Steve!!!"
"I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 2 years ago, tried conventional treatment for 6 months then
looked for alternative. I was already doing what I believed were "good food habits.." until I
found the SCDlifestyle diet. It has worked for me. Not only the diet but all the other well
researched info. I do believe too that this site is not only about the diet but the community
and support around it. I'm still learning what works and doesn't for me and I will get there.
Diet is not the only thing.. I also did major changes in my lifestyle, change my job to minimize
stress etc. Thanks a million!"
" I was in a confusing mess with a food allergy disease known as eosinophilic esophagitis, I
drifted from medication to medication trying to find something that would work until one day the
medication I was taking caused small bowel bacteria overgrowth syndrome. Awesome. The best part
is that I had no idea that I had it.
After going through multiple trips to the GI doctor to only have them poke and prod all over to
tell me that I was perfectly healthy, I was about to give up. I found the SCD diet after a
particularly difficult digestive situation and decided to jump into it. I feel as though
sticking tight to the diet was able to rid my body of the bad influx of bacterium. I am now
achieving perfect "digestion" and could not be happier.
Sticking tight to the diet has allowed me to become much healthier! I can even report that the
amount of foods that I am allergic to has drastically reduced, I believe in part to the

myself with Coeliac disease. When my CD was diagnosed I was literally living on boiled rice and
peas for 18 months. Now I can truly say my diet has vastly expanded, is very healthy, and the
oils from the SCD base foods are healing and soothing to my previously inflamed gut. My son ,
far from the three year old I was told to expect as a life-long prospect, is now a highly
educated chap with an excellent career ahead of him. having trained as a nutritional therapist
and nurse I now use this approach for many of my patients. Being able to send them your book has
been a revelation for me."
" I've just started the SCD. I was going to wait for a few weeks, but got so bad, I started
immediately. I read BTVC, but wasn't sure how to start. I ran across your website and bought
your e-book SCD Lifestyle (love the bonuses too). I love the structure and phases with or
without dairy. It's made the transition doable. I'm just finished the Intro Phase and I'm in my
first day of Phase one. Journaling has become something I enjoy doing. I want to be able to go
back and see what works and were II may have gone off track. Thanks for the time and thought
you've put into making SCD work."
The guide is easy to follow and implement. It really benefits someone who has no previous knowledge of cooking in the first place. I really liked the step by step guide of how to cook demonstrated with pictures. I experienced joy after knowing that starting SCD is not hard with a guide like this.
" Ulcerative Colitis and drugs aren't working any more...
Step 1. Buy BTVC
Step 2. Buy SCD Lifestyle, listen to the podcasts, read all the resources
Step 3. Tailor your diet when it is not working (Thanks Jordan & Steve)
Step 4. Be persistent... it is not easy!
Step 5. Enjoy life -- being drug and symptom free after 4months
Well this was my experience UC for three years, drugs became ineffective, loosing weight, looking
thin, gaunt, finding work difficult when you need to go to toilet 10-12 times a day. Started
looking for something else...being on strong medications at age 33 didn't seem right. My prayers
were answered in finding SCD. Treating the cause not so much the effect seemed rather
Week 1 was tough -- symptoms got worse, migraines, felt tired and lethargic. Week 2 symptoms the
same however, my mind was much clearer, that brain fog thing is real. Initially, had nasty
experiences with yogurt and probiotics. So 1 teaspoon of nut then goat yogurt for weeks. Started
taking full cream raw cows milk yogurt (unpasteurized) an noticed and immediate benefit. Was
also taking some of the supplements that Jordan and Steve recommend.
Anyway wont bore you, but progressively got better to the point where i feel normal again...or
perhaps better than normal. This diet has been hard work, expensive and definitely worth every
cent, every craving as I have learned to appreciate good health and good food. As for the guys
at SCD Lifestyle, just want to say THANK YOU for being a great encouragement; your books,
website, podcasts and resources are invaluable. Cheers!
" I'm about 80 days or so into the diet, I have had a dramatic reduction in the use of
" I truly feel that both of you have saved my life.
When I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease last January, I was very sick. I had had unremittant
diarrhea, abdominal and joint pain, rashes, fevers, and vision loss. My gastroenterologist
offered me Remicaid, saying that diet had so bearing on my disease. Her quote to me was "I wish
that I could tell you to stop eating broccoli and that would cure your disease". I refused her
treatment plan and walked out of her office knowing that there had to be a better way.
I started the SCD the following week and followed it with strict adherence. However, after being
on the diet for 10 months, I was still not feeling well with frequent flares. I was about to
give up- I had even made an appointment with my physician to talk about a round of steroids. I
Then, my husband found your website through a link on a Paleo site and I was hooked. I read your
blogs, followed your phasing charts, eliminated the 4 Horsemen, and started on multivitamins
from GI ProHealth. My health turned around! Elaine's work has been important to so many of us,
but you have written the missing chapters- the chapters many of us need to succeed. I believe
that you have given hope to those of us who just needed a few tweaks. I appreciate both of your
hard work and dedication and a simple *thank you* cannot fully express the gratitude that I
I practice acupuncture and Chinese medicine and I look forward to your book coming out in hard
copy so that I can give it to people who have digestive problems!"
" I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in late August 2006 after 7 months of denying what was
going on with my body. My grandmother had had UC and as my symptoms began multiplying I just
simply didn't want to face it. But, obviously I reached a point where I had no choice in the
matter. I was sick and not getting better. The diagnosis was not a shock. Yet it still stung and
knowing I would be living with this miserable disease the rest of my life was depressing. The
Lialda and Prednisone helped to a degree, but really didn't clear things up entirely. In fact I
was about to be put on my 3rd round of prednisone just a month before my wedding. I had had
enough. My gut, literally and figuratively was telling me that there had to be another option. I
searched and searched the internet and stumbled upon SCD. It seemed to make sense. It was simple
and certainly couldn't hurt to try. So, my fiance and I cooked our first SCD like meal and low
and behold, no gas, no bloating no cramping. That was enough for me to try eating this way the
following day and to go out and get the book. Two weeks later I went in for my sigmoidoscopy and
the doctor was unable to find traces of my flare. Honestly just 2 weeks prior he was ready to
put me on prednisone to stop the bleeding. He warned me that strict diets like this one are hard
to follow and that I might see success but that it might not be possible to continue on the
diet. Well, he was wrong. Feeling healthy and being able to stay off of steroid medications has
made it all worth it. In a nutshell, SCD has saved my life and changed it for the better. It is
not about what I cannot have, but about what I can do with my life. I have two beautiful
children now. something I may not have been able to do if I had been on some stronger UC meds.
Our ideas regarding what is healthy and what isn't has completely changed. We are the people our
friends and family look to to answer questions or provide insight on health issues and food. If
I had not gone down this path my children would be seeing a standard American pediatrician not
an Integrative Medicine Pediatrician. My 3 year old son would still be eating gluten, oats,
dairy and pineapple (his favorite fruit) and getting sick all the time. But, instead my husband
and I are acutely aware that food is directly connected to how our bodies behave. Instead of
looking for medicine as our first defense to treat our son, we looked to food. It is a challenge
to eat differently, but it is a blessing, too. One that I will always be grateful for."
" I have to say: "Thank you, Thank you..." For three years now, I have been looking, searching,
googling... to find what was wrong with me. In short, you are the only one that has all the info
and symptoms and to most beautiful of all, you are not afraid to tell us, that everyone is
different and unique. Why is it so important to say these qualities? It makes us want to take of
our sickness, our diet, seriously, and not to be afraid of trying.
If it does not work, you have other solutions to try. The SCD lifestyle you have prepared for us,
is simple, resourceful, and without it, I would have not been able to find a solution to all my
physical problems. Thank you so much for your effort."
" I just wanted to let you know that we downloaded your book several weeks ago and we have been
following your directions without deviation. We're even making homemade yogurt with the
dehydrator we bought! This past week my wife turned a corner and had more good days than bad.
We're feeling hopeful that it's a good sign of things to come! I just wanted to let you know
that we are grateful for the information you provided. All the best."
"My bowel movements went from 7 to 10 a day liquid to 3 a day long brown and smooth with no pain.
Thank you very much"
"Firstly I want to begin by saying how truly and eternally grateful I am for your efforts and
hard work. Your booklet on starting the scd diet single handedly (no joke) allowed me to fully
stop all my medications, I am now fully medication free and begin my journey to completely
curing my UC. Thank you so very very much."
"On SCD for little over 2 weeks, blood and swelling gone. Last night was the first night in 8
weeks I didn't have to get up and poop! Yeah, seeing fast results. I've had UC for over ten
stopped taking Canasa in Dec because could no longer afford it. Sent me into a huge flare which
shall forever be known as the Great Christmas Flare. Had to find something that would work since
have no meds now. So thankful for SCD Lifestyle for updating the original diet and giving me
many tools and resources for success! Now I hope not to go back on the meds even when I can
" I just want to say thank you for all your work. I love your website and facebook page, its so
helpful and inspiring and encouraging.
I've had bloating and C all my life and get really depressed about it. Especially because NONE of
my friends or family understand, and often I would feel emotionally bullied to eat what they
think I should! But I started the intro diet and am now on phase 1 and I feel really good, much
less bloating and gas and regular bowel movements for the first time in 32 years! And even
better, I feel empowered and stronger, I know what works for me and I dont mind telling f+f my
food preferences now. I'm really happy about it."
" Your diet is SAVING MY LIFE every day! With Chronic Pancreatitis, I should have been dead last
year; but by staying on the SCD and logging which foods affect me, I can still run my Insurance
Agency! I was confined to bed, in agony all the time. I got the pain under control, but if I eat
the wrong thing, it's right back to the hospital for four days of no food, no water, and even
Did I say Thank You?"
" Marley had a colonoscopy about a month ago and they did biopsies on three sections of her
colon. The results came back and at least one section shows totally normal, healthy cells (YEAH)
and the other sections showed inactive chronic colitis cells. The section with the now healthy
cells was one of the worst sections from the original colonoscopy. I know it is because of this
diet that we are where we are and it is because of you all and ALL the work you do. Your
podcasts are awesome and I learn so much from them. So, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!"
"I rarely have more than 1-2 BM a day now. It isn't yellow anymore and I have much less nausea
and stomach pain. i don't have migraines, dissiness, brain fog, depression anymore and I just am
so much more happy and good company for my family. When I think about it I have had these
problems buliding up over the past 10 years and I guess it can take maybe another 10 years of
repair to get my stomach up and working again. I have to slowly give up all the illigal foods
and get happy with the SCD diet. I am just so much a happier person and healthy person."
" I've been following SCD for almost 16 months and have never felt better. I've struggled with
Crohn's for 22 years and never reached a place where I was symptom free until SCD (I had tried
other diet modifications in the past as well -- gluten/corn/sugar/etc free)."
" I suffered from stomach aches, terrible gas, weight loss, malnutriotion, low iron,
anemia,...Doctors did all sorts of tests and found nothing. But I kept losing weight at a terrible
speed, so I went on the internet for some help. Luckily I found SCD. I discussed the diet with
my doctor, and the reaction was something like, don't get your hopes up, but it won't hurt you.
The first weeks were very hard, but I almost felt immediately some relief (after the die-off
that is, that was quite terrible). After 2 months my bloodwork was perfect. My doctor hardly
could believe it. I am still continuing with the diet, introducing new foods one at a time. I am
able to start cycling again. And I already regained a lot of the lost weight. So really worth it
to give it a try."
" My husband has a very mild case of Crohn's and has been symptom free for a while now, but he
has a fistula that Immuran has not been able to heal. His doctor wanted to start him on
Remicade, but he refused and decided to try SCD. He's been on SCD for almost three months now,
and his fistula is finally starting to heal. He's planning on going back to his GI doc soon to
see if she'll start to wean him off of the Immuran. We've seen tons of testimonials online, and
we're convinced that SCD is a miracle diet!"
"Scd lifestyle is def my number one advisor, I trust you guys the most when it comes to
information about improving my health. Thanks for helping me be a sucessfull CEO of my health
with the wealth of knowledge that you provide. You guys have never steered me wrong. Thank
"As I said on Facebook, your ebooks, podcasts, articles and support have been amazing. I'm on day
8 and though my stomach pain has drastically improved, not to mention the ability to eat more
protein and fat, I still have things to work on."
" I am 6 weeks into the diet and have seen significant improvements. I sent a note to my General
Practitioner yesterday and told her about SCD - in 2012 she has had multiple patients come in
with colitis. I told her that I had done quite a bit of research over the summer and began SCD
unsuccessfully over the summer. I told her if she wanted to share my story with her patients
that it was critical that they do not do SCD w/out SCD lifestyle. I really believe it was the
tweaks (digestive enzymes, the four horsemen etc) and the phasing that are the critical success
factors to SCD. As you know you really can't just do legal/illegal on day one."
"Thank you for your wonderful site and information, I have read the Breaking the vicious Cycle
book, but found your ebook information the key to success. My son has gone from 40kg to 60kg, is
drug free and just starting to regain life after 3 months. We were told this was impossible.
Thank you again for your love of life and dedication to others. God Bless you both and your
families. Kind regards."
Brenda and family
"Thank you so much, been on the diet 5 months now and on my last scope (2 months after starting
SCD) there was no sign of disease. I have had UC for 21 years and now the biopsy showed nothing
but a healthy colon!! Thank you so much could not of started without you guys."
"Its been great, over a year now without a single flair. Prior to SCD I spent 2 years cycling
from flair to flair 1 to 3 months between. I have had faith for healing and its amazing to see
that God has worked though you guys to bring it. Thanks again for being faithful and doing what
your called to do."
" I started the SCD diet 7 days ago and I am doing great -- lost 8 pounds in the first week (have
weight to lose).
"I have been afflicted with Ulcerative Colitis for over 13 years -- and my doc finally told me it
was time to get my colon out -- I really didn't want to go that route and found your book on line
and ordered. I am feeling much better -- still have multiple bowel movements, but down from 10-12
per day to about 5 -- yesterday was my best day with only 4. My bloating is gone -- dealing with
bloating for years and now can wear clothes that were fine in the morning, but way too tight by
the afternoon, because of my bloating that would occur. That has been the best thing that has
happened for me in years. I love your books and all of the detail you have provided -- I
appreciate it very much."
"Hi Steve! Thanks again for all of the help that you both have provided. I am feeling SO much
better, it's really unbelievable! An answer to many prayers. I was diagnosed with Crohn's
and started on SCD in July. It took about 6 weeks, but my symptoms completely resolved. Your
website is great and you share a lot of wonderful resources. Thank you so much!"
" Thanks so much for a great book in Surviving The SCD Lifestyle. Thanks a lot for all the
good info again and podcasts are great"
